Design and analysis of race car muffler
• Engineered a custom race car muffler and performed an acoustic analysis in SolidWorks and LMS Virtual Lab.
• Replaced the existing absorptive muffler in the CBR600cc engine with a reactive muffler and analyzed the backpressure.
• Determined velocity and pressure plots by analyzing the model in ANSYS FLUENT.
Findings
• The transmission loss of the double expansion chamber is 42.48, which is better than the single expansion chamber.
• The noise attenuation in the circular cross-section is comparatively higher than the elliptical cross-section, but the elliptical cross-section is more in use due to size limitations.
• Rate of fuel consumption rate is directly proportional to the muffler's back pressure performance.
